GUILTY AS CHARGED: NASES PRO NEGLECTS DUTIES
By: Idris Busari
In every organization, the role of a public relations officer is crucial to maintaining a positive image. The same applies to schools where the PRO is responsible for building relationships and disseminating information among students. However, when a PRO is ineffective, the consequences can be damaging.
Over the past few weeks, the PRO of NASES has been silent and neglectful of his constitutional duties. According to article 5, section 3, sub section 7 (ii) of the NASES UI constitution, the PRO shall publicise all the activities of the association (iii) Shall engage in propaganda work for the advancement of the welfare of the Association (viii) In his/her absence, the Social Director shall be responsible for the stipulated duties pending when the vacuum is filled or his arrival but over the past weeks, the PRO has not been publicising NASES activities rather, it has been the President disseminating information. The PRO only attended two executive meetings out of 7 in first semester so how or when would he plan in the advancement of the welfare of the Association?
It was also learnt during the Departmental Consultative Council (DCC) meeting that took place on Thursday 23rd of March, 2023 that there was no mutual relationship between the Social Director and the PRO. When asked about the whereabouts of the PRO, the Social Director and other executives could not tell the whereabouts of him. "We don't know why he is not available today. He has always been missing meetings." The department's President, Ayanwole Boluwatife Joshua PKA Prof B affirmed the claim above, "the effectiveness of his work is not really well fit."
Even though he was elected through bye-election, it is still not an excuse for negligence of duties. We have an example of the General Secretary who was also elected through bye-election and has been committed to her duties.
The press as the fourth estate and a watchdog has a sacred duty in bringing it to the notice of Nasesites and will not condone any negligence of duties. This should serve as an example to other office holders.
This pressman tried to reach out to him if there is a reason behind his negligence of duties but he refused to respond.
