ENTREPRENEUR OF THE WEEK: RICHIE WATCHES ENTERPRISE

By: Idris Busari

Kindly introduce yourself sir

I am Oyundoyin Opeyemi, a 400 level student of the department of Special Education, University of Ibadan.

What do you do or sell?

I am into selling of different kinds of wristwatches, jewelries and accessories.

How and when did you started your business?

I started my business around 2018/2019 but I stopped going to shop when I was given admission into the University of Ibadan for my degree, and I decided to continue selling online.

How do you balance your business with school activities?

One thing I believe in is self-determination. I worked towards it, and by God's grace, I am able to manage my business with schooling.

How can you be reached if you want to be patronized?

I can be reached on the following social media: Facebook, Richie Opeyemi Sanjor, Instagram, @RichieOpeyemi, and on WhatsApp, 08030794556.

Is it advisable for students to go into entrepreneurship? If yes, how can they do it without affecting their primary goal in school?

Yes, it is advisable that students should go into entrepreneurship because parents may not be able to finance their children in school but if he or she is a student entrepreneur, he or she can manage on his/her own without depending on their parents too much. If the physical entrepreneur cannot work, the online will work.

What challenges do you face as a student entrepreneur?

Hmmm, the challenges I face as a student entrepreneur is that sometimes I might be in class, and some orders may come in, and it is impossible for me to pick up their calls or listen to their voice notes or reply to their messages. Another challenge is I can’t even get in touch with my brother in Lagos to help with them, but I always made sure that I get back in touch with them as soon as I'm free after classes and give them some excuses why I couldn't pick their calls. In short, I beg them most of the time.

What actually keeps you going despite all odds?

Well, let us thank God for everything. Despite the cashless policy saga we’re going through now, my business is going the way it has been since I have always been making use of online transactions with my customers.

Give us your parting advice for Freshers and student entrepreneur

My advice for the freshers and students is that as they are focusing on their education, they should also find something to do as supplements for a living so that they can be independent and help themselves in the future after schooling because of the situation of our country which isn't encouraging.

Thank you so much for your time sir.

You're welcome sir.
