FACULTY OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVES ORGANIZES SOFT SKILLS TRAINING FOR EDUCATORS

By: Adejokun Elizabeth

The executives of the Faculty of Education with Jobberman organized soft skills training at the faculty lecture theatre on 30th March 2023.

The training was attended by a large number of students across all levels and departments in the faculty.

While speaking on the challenges facing the country, the facilitator, Mr Mubarak, stated that Nigeria's economy has not been doing well right from independence. "Since Her independence, Nigeria has been facing series of untoward challenges ranging from unemployment to economic issues, and a lot of discrepancies in the education sector, as a result of which her developmental growth is stunted. Due to the severity of these challenges, most Nigerian youths are stranded with no lucid view of what the future holds for them." He went on to say that "it is pertinent that the youths possess not just the 'hard skills' acquired within the four walls of a classroom but also, certain soft skills should be acquired as well."

The facilitator took the attendees through the elements of soft skills, social effectiveness, communication skills, emotional intelligence and teamwork, employability skills, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The students were also sensitized on tips that would benefit them while hunting for jobs such as writing a good Curriculum vitae which will stand the test of any ATS (Applicant Tracking Software), a software that filters out poorly written CVs during job application, steps in problem solving as well as Edward Bono's six thinking hats.

Each attendee was issued signed certificates from Jobberman, Nigeria at the end of the training.
