WHERE IS THE SPORTS DIRECTOR? NASESITES WONDER
By: Idris Busari
It is far better not to vow in the first place than to vow and not pay up. Such is the case of AZEEZ MUFIDAT, NASES Sports director for the 2021/2022 academic session who in her political ambition made 8 plans for Nasesites during the Press night but she is yet to fulfil any of them.
The first plan on her
list was to ensure that a
sports
committee is inaugurated to oversee sporting activities and discuss pressing
issues as regards NASES sports.
The second plan was to see all NASES members’ kinesthetic development and
fitness by organizing weekly training. The third plan was to employ a top-level coaching staff
for the departmental team. The fourth plan was to encourage the NASES UI team to run a
social and non-competitive session to increase inconclusiveness and encourage
greater participation during training. The fifth plan was to put all efforts into the adequate maintenance
of the department's
first aid box. The sixth plan was to ensure that the department participate in
the 200-level
survival cup. The seventh plan was to include sporting activities during the
departmental week and the eighth
plan was to organize a football competition between undergraduate and postgraduate
students in the department.
In the first plan, it has not been seen or
heard that the sports director has inaugurated a
sports
committee to oversee the sporting affairs of the department. Over the past few
days, Nasesites randomly has taken the responsibility of the Sports director in
organizing and coordinating the affairs without the knowledge of the Sports director. Will our sports director still inaugurate the sports
committee when the major tournament (Dean’s Cup) is here already?
Regarding the second
plan, it was observed that the Sports director always sends training
reminders to the NASES
WhatsApp
group page, but she is not always available for the training. Has our Sport
director been messing with us in developing our kinesthetic and fitness?
According to the Sports director about her third plan on employing a top-level coaching staff for the departmental team, the departmental team haven’t had a local coach not to talk to a top-level coach till now. Special Education will be taking on Art and Social Sciences, the defending champion on Tuesday, 25th of April 2023 and our Sports director has not introduced any coach to the team yet. Is it when we are out of the competition or when her regime ends in a few weeks?
Like the second plan, the
fourth plan is nothing close to fulfilment. There is no way that the sports director that has not been
active in training runs a social and
non-competitive session to increase inclusiveness and encourage greater
participation. The departmental football team had a friendly match with the Department
of Guidance and Counselling on 23rd April 2023 where they played 3-3. Part of the flaws observed in
the match was the unavailability of players to substitute for fatigued players.
How will our sports director encourage greater
participation in
this?
In the fifth plan, the first aid box that is
supposed to be saving lives has been lying down to be saved. The first aid box
which is supposed to be present during training and friendly matches has been
unavailable. How will the sports director ensure the safety
of our players?
In her sixth plan, it was
not heard that the 200-level
students of the department participated in the ongoing 200-level survival cup that
has reached the finals now. Was the Sports director not aware of the competition? Was
she informed but forgotten that she once made a promise to include the 200-level students of the
department in the competition?
The sports director planned to
include inter-level football competition from 100-400 level and a friendly match
between the department and another department during the departmental week in
her seventh agenda, but the sports
director’s plan was not included during the executive and the Departmental
Consultative Council meeting held last week. Could it be because of her
negligence? It was also noticed by this pressman that the sports director has not attended
any meetings with the DCC to
have her budgets approved.
In the last part of her plan, the sports director promised to
organize a football competition between undergraduates and post-graduate
students of the department. We do not know when this will be but we hope she fulfils at least one of
her promises.
It can be seen that the sports director has violated Article 5, section 3, and
Subsection
10 of the NASES UI constitution, (i) the sports director shall be in charge of all the
sporting activities (ii) shall ensure proper usage of all sporting activities
(iii) shall be the chairperson of sports committee (iv) shall organize sporting
activities as at and when due (v) shall perform other duties assigned to her
office.
