SPECIAL EDUCATION HOLDS ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES CELEBRATION

The department of Special Education held its annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration on the 4th of December in Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.

The program which officially started by 10 am was earlier preceded by an awareness walk. The event was hosted by a lecturer in the department, Dr Oyefeso while the Dean of the faculty of Education, Professor Adegbesan gave the opening remark.

Special guests like Professor Yinka Omigbodun, Chief Skin Akingbesote, Venerable S.F Folorunsho, Professor O.A Moronkola, Chief Onifade Olaonipekun, lecturers in the departments, a representative of Sumal Foods who sponsored the event and the President of the Student Union were recognised at the event.

Schools like Child's Clinic, Special Education; House of Providence, Yemetu; Child Mission School as well as Rehabilitation Home, Moniya entertained the guests by dancing and displaying vocational skills while the guest speaker Chief O.A Moronkola and a parent spoke to the audience on the kinds of disabilities we have as well as the need for everyone to work together for an inclusive and better society for people living with disabilities.

Awards of excellence were presented to individuals like Dr Kelechi Lazarus, Late Mrs Foluke Idowu who was represented by her son as well as former first lady of Oyo state, Mrs Florence Ajimobi represented by Mrs Bolanle Alim.

Professor Ayo Osisanya gave the closing remark and the event came to an end around 1pm
