INTERVIEW WITH THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY; "BASIC DUES ARE NOT ENOUGH TO RUN THE ASSOCIATION"

Good afternoon. The press is currently conducting interviews to check on the executives and the promises they have made

Can we start the interview now?

Of course. First of all, I'll have to commend your constant reminders for the students to pay their dues. It's very consistent, well done. Your manifesto was pretty concise which led to the expectations that all or at least most would have been accomplished by now.You had three items which I'm sure you're aware of. However I'm particularly interested in the subsidized dues and the pay-in-installment scheme. Why haven't we heard anything concerning that since you came into office?

Alright ma, about the subsidized dues, everything that was in my capacity was done to make sure the amount to be paid by students was not more than the stipulated amount Nasesites are paying for this session. We are all aware about the rise in almost everything in this country.
I don't know if any other exco has ever said this, but we sometimes run the association with our personal money. This is so because we do not want to tamper with the money in the association's account to avoid insufficient fund to run the necessities at the end of the session.
Starting from the Freshers' welcome that was done at the beginning of first semester, we had to contribute 30,000 among ourselves.

Subsidized implies that there's a plan in place to reduce the burden of the students through some payment. There's no subsidy if we're paying the exact amount intended

Yes, if the dues were not subsidized, Nasesites will surely be paying more than the amount of money they are paying. Basic dues are not enough to run the association. Like I said earlier, we take money from our pockets to run things in the association which is not supposed to be so. That's my way of subsidizing dues for Nasesites. Note: Most of the excos were not given budget. Can I answer the question concerning pay-in- installment?

Are you saying there was a plan to introduce extra fees asides the basic dues because the basic dues are not enough to run the association?

Though there was no plan for that. But, the best that could have happened was doing that.

I see. You can answer the second question now

About the pay-in-installment, I was advised on the day of the press night that the plan might not really work. A question was thrown at me that " what if a student paid the two-thirds of the dues, and didn't balance up till the end of the session, do such student has right to package?".I couldn't answer the question, and I realized that the plan might not really work. That was the reason I didn't include it to my agenda as the Financial Secretary.

Does that then mean the Financial secretary has no plans for the department this session?

Ofcourse, I do. The plan is to continue to be loyal and committed to Nasesites, even though sometimes, it could be very inconvenient for me. We all know, the position of the Financial Secretary is not an easy task at all, you have to be extra ordinary careful and attentive as well.
I've had headaches, sacrificed my time, even though at times, it's always very inconvenient, but that's what I signed for though.

Being committed to your post is a duty not a 'plan' ma'am. As you said, it's what you signed up for. Any final remarks?

I know, but it's rare to see my kind. I can say it with my full chest. Accurate record keeping, especially when it involves money is not something everyone can do.

Is this your final remark?

 Yes, ma'am

Thank you for your time

You're welcome. Have a nice day
