HUMAN BEINGS

By Eniola Faleye

Human beings are creatures created in the image and likeness of God, who made us Himself. Not only are we fashioned in His image, but we are also uniquely crafted, set apart from all other creations as special beings.

We possess distinct features that differentiate us from every other creature. We are special because:

We are created in the image and likeness of God.

We are given the opportunity to ask for mercy, grace, and love.

We are blessed with a unique brain, enabling us to think and reason in ways no other creature can.

We are endowed with diverse talents that further highlight our uniqueness.

We are given the chance to make mistakes and to amend our ways.

Not all creatures share these special attributes. Yet, despite these blessings, we are also the most dangerous creatures on earth. We have the capacity to commit all forms of evil, including:

Disobedience, which is evil in the sight of God.

Killing one another or using others for rituals just to gain wealth, which God does not value as most important.

Harboring jealousy, hatred, and anger.

Displaying pride and arrogance.

Engaging in mockery and belittling others.

These are behaviors that the special creatures of God should not embody.

As human beings, we are meant to exhibit a humane nature—showing kindness, compassion, and making others happy. However, not all humans behave as true human beings; some act more like monsters or beasts disguised in human form.

There are several deep questions you should ask yourself as a human being:

1. Why do you harbor hatred toward others?

2. Why don’t you want others to grow or succeed?

3. Why are you unwilling to learn from others?

4. Why are you often jealous of others?

5. Why do you hold on to pride?

6. Why do you prefer to only mind your own business, ignoring the needs of others?

7. Why are you willing to sacrifice others just to achieve your own ambitions?

These are important questions for reflection. Even though you are human and capable of evil, that does not mean you cannot conquer the evil within you. Think deeply about your actions and strive to change.

When God gave us wisdom to govern the world, to administer justice with integrity, and to rule over all other creatures; why then are we misusing that wisdom?
