ASUU-UI HOLDS PEACEFUL PROTEST RALLY

Following the "no work, no pay" policy by the Federal government of Nigeria, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Ibadan branch held a peaceful protest on 28th of November, 2022.

The protest rally which started from the Faculty of Education lecture theatre down to social sciences and then to Tekana Tamuno and to the University main gate. 

Barr. Femi Aborisade, Com. Yinka Omisore, Chairman Unilag ASUU Chapter, Com. Dele Ashiru and Oyo State Secretary for Joint Action Front (JAF) Com. Abiodun Bamgboye  graced the protest rally.

While addressing the lecturers, stakeholders, students and parents present, the ASUU-UI Chairman stated that the protest was staged because of the failed promises by the federal government of Nigeria. "This protest belongs to all of us and we're telling the government to fulfill agreements made to the union. The government that will deduct money from workers and won't remit it to the appropriate quarters. A government that takes what belongs to workers and doesn't remit it to people. We're not going to allow them to turn this place to banana republic".

The President of the SU Union who led the students in the protest rally also addressed the public on the motive of the protest rally. "A slap on ASUU is a slap on students and a slap on students is a slap on the educational system. We stand with ASUU today to fight for their right".

Also, the former ASUU National Treasurer, Comrade Ademola Aremu also spoke at the rally protest. "We have actually broken a bond today. The struggle was firstly against the students, then to parents and then to the educational system of Nigeria. We want to rescue this country from the pigs. Teachers cannot teach in abstract. Students cannot longer receive lectures in classes but receives lectures under the trees and hostels are not fully funded. This contry is finished if we allow them to bastardized it. I cannot fight with my students or my colleagues. We're not casual labourers in this country. The ruling elites are spoiling our legacy which is education".

Prince Remi Adeyemo, the representative of parents also addressed the public on the protest rally by ASSU-UI. "ASUU is not against students and parents but against our government. Education is a right of students not a privilege. A country that cannot educate their citizens will turn them to criminals, thugs and hoodlums".
