TESA L&D ORGANIZES DEBATE COMPETITION

The Technology and Engineering Students Association Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan (TESA L&D) hosted a debate competition between the faculty of Education, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts at the Faculty of Technology LLT on Friday 16th of December, 2022.
In attendance were the President of the Literary and Debating Society, Williams Neyen; President of the Faculty of Education, Georgeana Reuben; the Social Director of Technology and Engineering Students Association, Opeyemi Oloruntegbe; the Presidents of Education, Arts and Law Literary and Debating Society; among others.
The competition started with an oratory titled "Save our Future" which was presented by four students of the Faculty of Technology after which two people from the audience were given an opportunity to speak on the same topic.
The oratory was followed by the debate competition between the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Technology titled "Are Presidential Debates Relevant to the Nigerian Electioneering System?" The two speakers from the Faculty of Education, Babalola Daniel and Omoteruwa Temi, each giving a five minutes speech to support the notion where they both nailed their points while the speakers from the Faculty of Technology, Aladetan Victor and Aliu Oluwasegun debated against the notion within the same time frame.
The next debate was between the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Technology titled "Should essential service workers be banned from striking?" The speakers from the Faculty of Arts, Morakinyo Temidayo and Olayiwola Raheemat came up to give their speeches to support the notion while the speakers of the Faculty of Technology, Courage Nwokorie and Oguntade Ayooluwa debated against the notion.
The last debate was between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Technology titled "Should sex work be legalised in Nigeria?” The Faculty of Technology supported the notion and the Faculty of Law was supposed to oppose but their speakers were absent. The speakers from the Faculty of Technology, Olatunji Vincent and Ope Oluwakorede gave their speeches.
At the end of the debate competition, Faculty of Technology won against Faculty of Law due to the absence of their speakers, Faculty of Arts won against Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Technology won against Faculty of Education.
Certificates of participation were presented to the participating speakers; while the faculties that won and the best speaker for the oratory competition, Babalola Daniel, went home with plagues.
