THE DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION HELD HER FRESHERS' ORIENTATION ON 22ND MAY, 2025, AT A202 IN THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION OLD BUILDING.

The Department of Special Education held her freshers orientation on the May 22, 2025, at A202 in the Faculty of Education old building.
Key attendees included the Head of Department, Professor A.F. Komolafe, Dr. U.S. Udeme, Mrs. Adenike Akanni, and Professor Osisanya. 

The event commenced at 10:37 AM with Miss Olaleye Suliyat, the department's academic director, moderating the ceremony. In her opening remarks, Miss Suliyat welcomed the freshmen and introduced esteemed guests, including Dr. Abodunrin and Mrs. Adeleke, the staff advisors. The ceremony proceeded with the recitation of the national anthem, school anthem, and the department's anthem.

The department's president, Miss Oyekola Christianah, delivered a welcome address, expressing appreciation to the lecturers and encouraging freshmen to be open-minded and adaptable.. Professor Osisanya addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of attending the orientation, as it was not only for freshmen but for all department students. He encouraged students to focus on their studies, avoid distractions, and regularly attend classes. In his words, "Orientation exercise isn't meant for those who have just been admitted only or for everyone in the department."


Mrs. Adeleke, Staff Advisor 2, also addressed the students, stressing the need for regular attendance, studying, and seeking permission for absences. She urged students to be good representatives of their families and themselves. Dr. Abodunrin, Staff Advisor 1, advised students to embrace their courses positively and maintain a good mindset. He emphasized the importance of decent dressing and adhering to university regulations. Dr. U.S. Jacob explained the calculation of CGPA, detailing the 5.0 grading system and providing guidance on accurate calculation. 

The Head of Department, Professor A.F. Komolafe, encouraged students to approach lecturers for help when needed and focus on their academic goals. Mrs. Adenike Akanni motivated students to make an impact from the start of their academic journey, saying, "You can start making an impact even before you graduate... Don't just pass through UI, let UI pass through you."

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding students, including those with first-class honors and best students in each departmental unit.

    - 200 level: Akinade Fatima
    - 400 level: Olayiwola Khadijat, Ogunsola Ifeoulwa, Adelola Oluwatumininu, Onuoha Chidinma, and Olufokunbi Charity.

● Best students in each unit:
    - Learning Disability Unit: Kaycee-Okuma Sharon
    - Intellectual Disability Unit: Olufokunbi Charity
    - Visual Impairment Unit: Oyekola Christianah 
    - Hearing Impairment Unit: Meroyi Sinmiloluwa 
    - Gifted and Talented Unit: Adelola Oluwatumininu
    - Audiology and Speech Pathology Unit: Ogunsola Ifeoulwa

The program ended at exactly 12:43 PM.
