SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT ORGANISES FRESHERS' ORIENTATION

The department of Special Education, University of Ibadan organized freshers' orientation for 2021/2022 session in room F202, Faculty of Education on Friday 10th of November, 2022.
In attendance among the lecturers were the Dean of Faculty, Professor O.A. Fakolade, Head of Department, Dr. Ayo Osisanya, Professor I.A. Nwazuoke, Professor J.O. Oyundoyin, the students and the executives.
While speaking about how successful students could be, Professor Nwazuoke advised the freshmen to ensure that they read their books at all times and they should set goals as it will help them to achieve their goals. "make reading your second nature, always recognize your God and never put Him aside, work hard and never substitute work for other things and be goal oriented".
While addressing the freshmen, the Dean of Education, Professor Fakolade urged them to be proud of Special Education as their department because there are lot of opportunities that comes even before graduating and they should start self organization and evaluation early as it is the master key to making a first class. "don't let anybody tell you that what you are studying is inferior, let them know you are studying Special Education, organize and evaluate yourselves as you can not make first class unless you start from now".
He further stated that it is good to learn some skills in other units in the department because it might be needed when leaving the country. "which ever unit you meet yourself, ensure that you know a little bit of other units because your skills might be needed anytime as it is the skills that makes us different from other departments. Even if you want to 'japa', you must have some skills in this units".
While speaking on students dressing, the Head of Department, Dr. Ayo Osisanya advised them to always dress well as indecent dressing is not allowed in the department and the faculty at large. "the faculty of Education have a policy on indecent dressing. You should be molding models in the society".
While addressing the freshmen, the president of the department, Ayanwole Boluwatife Joshua (Prof. B) urged them to be disciplined and follow principles of diligence, hardworking and God serving. "there is no better person than yourself as you are yourself when you are pushing yourself. You can't be yourself when someone is pushing you. Do not to be a loner but instead relate with others. Know your God always".
While teaching the freshmen on how to calculate their CGPA, Dr. Oyefeso advised them to ensure that they get all their courses to be registered for from their course adviser so as not to register wrong courses. "see your level adviser to guide you on courses to be registered as you are on the path of failure if you keep getting courses from your mates". She concluded by showing them how to calculate their CGPA.
The programm ended with the questions and answers segment between the freshmen.
