Upcoming University Exam and Anxiety among Students.

By Charity Olufokunbi
It's no news that according to the academic calendar for this 2022/2023 academic session, the first semester exam will be commencing next month.

This information alone has brought anxiety to the doorstep of a lot of students. While some students are doing TDB back to back in a bid to cover their course materials, others are scared and at the same thing worried about the "lot" that is to be covered.

Amidst all these, students are still battling with presentations on different courses, assignments, projects and at the same time tests to write.

The rate at which this semester seems to be moving so fast is a thing of concern to students.

This anxiety on the students has caused a lot as students have become regular visitors at the University health clinic(Jaja). Most students don't have time to cater for their physical needs as they are so preoccupied with attending classes, doing assignment and projects and also reading for tests.

John Smith said and I quote: "The constant worry and overthinking caused by anxiety can hinder students' ability to think clearly and solve problems effectively.".

How do we cope amidst all this? I'll be giving 5 things every students should do in order to conquer this anxiety.

The first thing is for you to know when to speak out. You don't have to keep everything to yourself. You know you need help, then speak to people who you know are in the position to help you. If you're finding it difficult to understand a course, meet people who understand it so they can put you through.

Another thing is to create a workable daily timetable. Emphasis on the workable. Creating a timetable you know can't be achieved will only make you worry after you see you still have some undone task at the end of the day. There's this satisfaction that comes when you see you achieved everything you planned to do in a day.

You have to be intentional about your health. Eat good food, take fruits regularly and rest well. Yes, rest well. Resting well will enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the brain.

Embracing positivity is another thing. Have a positive mindset. Always look at the brighter side of things. Don't always see the bad side. Even when you do not seem to understand a course, tell yourself that you'll understand it and find ways that can aid your understanding of the course.

The last thing is to engage in activities that gives you joy and makes you happy. You have a hobby, engage in it as this has a way of making you relaxed and calming your nerves.
